Where the heck did hibernate go?
I’m running Windows Vista and I have to say, it’s no Windows XP! Why do they have to make everything so hard? I recently did a disk clean up and my hibernate option disappeared! I work on a laptop and I have two toddlers so I use the hibernate option often. I needed it back so I wasted a good hour or so finding a solution. If you’re running Windows Vista and you happen to lose your hibernate option here is what you do:
Start menu>> all programs>>accessories>>command prompt. Don’t left click at this point! Right click and then and a menu will appear. Click “run as administrator” Now at the command prompt type this: “powercfg/hibernate on” without the quotes and hit enter. Close the command prompt. Now, you should have your hibernate option back!

Good grief!!! What a lot of hooplah to regain something you should not have lost in the first place. i had Vista at work, but didn’t need “hibernate” so never used it, and i’m glad i didn’t need it there. There were things i liked about Vista, but the thing i hated was the clumsy way it has of moving files from one folder to another! Yikes! That was a time-consuming nightmare! i don’t think Vista is an improvement. i am ’bout ready for a new computer and i know it’s going to come pre-loaded with Vista. Yuk….i wasn’t impressed when i used it at work. Well, good luck, and thanks for posting the cure for a lost hibernate action. What a bummer!

YIKES! We were in the market to get me a new computer but I refused to get one because I didn’t want vista.
So we just upgraded mine. Next year we will be in the market for a laptop so I just might have to suck it up unless we go with Apple. Glad you got it figured out!
