Creative Block

I’m so frustrated! I’m in a major creative block and I can’t get out! What’s really frustrating is I have a few ideas knocking around in my head, but I haven’t found a way to execute them. I get an idea, sit down with my laptop, and then…NOTHING. I’m hoping that admitting I have a problem is the first step to recovery. Please say it is. *sigh*

Where the heck did hibernate go?

I’m running Windows Vista and I have to say, it’s no Windows XP!  Why do they have to make everything so hard?  I recently did a disk clean up and my hibernate option disappeared!  I work on a laptop and I have two toddlers so I use the hibernate option often.  I needed it back so I wasted a good hour or so finding a solution.  If you’re running Windows Vista and you happen to lose your hibernate option here is what you do:

Start menu>> all programs>>accessories>>command prompt. Don’t left click at this point!  Right click and then and a menu will appear.  Click “run as administrator”  Now at the command prompt type this: “powercfg/hibernate on” without the quotes and hit enter.  Close the command prompt.  Now, you should have your hibernate option back!

Arrgh…Pirate Tales

We all know digital piracy is illegal.  I’m sure you’ve all read the Terms Of Use files in the digital products you’ve purchased or downloaded for free.  Since I’m a designer I’ve become familiar with copyright laws regarding digital files but I still like to visit Stop Piracy Blog now and then to see what’s new and notable.  If you never stopped by, you should.  Jen has done an amazing job of compiling all the information you need as a digital scrapper or designer regarding copyright.

I was browsing her sight this evening and ran across a  link to a funny cartoon.  It made me laugh out loud, you know lol?  :)  With a 2 year old and a 1 year old in the house, story-time is an everyday thing for us.  I can totally relate.  Take a look at the cartoon here.

Speaking of Terms Of Use, I have decided to revise mine for all my products to include scrap for hire work.  As soon as I work out the details, I’ll post my new terms here.  In the mean time, please feel free to contact me with any questions regarding my terms of use.

I have been through hundreds of Word-Press themes.  There are so many to choose from.  But I think I have finally settled on this one.  I’m not promising this one will stick around forever, but I’m happy for the time being.  Maybe I’ll even add my own personal touch eventually.  Right now I’ll focus on content though.  I forgot how time consuming setting up a new blog can be.

More to come…

All New To Me!

I’ve had this domain for a couple of years now.  At one time, I had quite an impressive website built.  But with each new baby, I seemed to have less time for things like website building.  I still needed an online presence for Sophia Davies Designs, to post product updates, sales, samples and freebies, so I checked around and it seemed like every digital designer in digi-land had a blog.  So, by necessity, and the need to go with the flow, I set up a free blogger blog and away I went.  Quick and easy updates and fun too!   Then, the other day it dawned on me.   The ease of blog publishing on my own domain!  WordPress, of course!  So, here I am.  I’m still learning the ropes, and digging around here so bear with me, but I think I’ll have this blog and snazzy in no time.

As soon as time permits, I’ll upload a little freebie to celebrate my new blog home.  Check back soon!

New Look, No Guilt

Where does the time go? At the end of the day I always feel like my list of things I didn’t get to is always longer than the list of things I did. My list of things completed is usually nothing to be ashamed of, but still, the to do list is never complete. Maybe I should just stop making lists?

One thing on the to do list that has been outstanding for quite some time is update my design website. The longer I leave it, the more things there are on it that need to be updated. So a couple of days ago I came to the conclusion I just don’t have time to continually update it especially since I have my blog and most of my product updates and freebies are done from here anyway. So, I found a basic template, searched around in my stash things I’ve created and came up with a one pager that will serve as a hub for Sophia Davies Designs. Updates will be basic and I won’t feel guilty about not maintaining my full website anymore LOL. If you have a chance, stop by and take a look: http://sophiadaviesdesigns.com.
